Publicize/Bring issues touching individual voters to the forefront: Consumer Protection

Wednesday, 8/26/2009

Hello Mark,
As stated in my sign-up message on your Web site, I am still puzzled as to why you do not bring out to the forefront of your campaign what you have done for New Yorkers in the consumer protection arena.
People take interest in a candidate who is poised to help them in matters they feel powerless to tackle as an individual. A recurrent variation in the theme is a consumer wronged by a business entity or a government agency unwilling to redress the issue fairly.
Best wishes,
Ben

Fire Protection

I am alarmed at the willingness exhibited by the current Mayor to cut the Fire Service in NYC. We need the Fire Department not only to protect the lives of our families, but also to preserve the Real Estate Tax Base. I know in my heart when the situation gets really, really bad, the women and men of the Fire Department will be there to help. They will not show up 30 minutes after the fact to ask questions and take notes. Their job does not take place when the dust has settled, it takes place in the thick of trouble.

Chinatown Buses - Unregulated & Unhealthy

The Chinatown bus industry is out of hand. I'm not sure what about the law that makes it legal to set up a bus depot out of any storefront. The buses clog traffic, park for hours in front of hydrants, pollute the air while idling for hours, and the passengers (most who come from other neighborhoods) loiter and litter on the sidewalks because there are no facilities for them. This puts an unfair burden the neighborhood.
