City University of New York students: Struggling, frustrated yet hopeful

This post authored by felix, from zipcode 11220

Dear Mr. Green,
I am a recent graduate from the City University of New York (CUNY) -- the wonderful college school system that has made huge strides to produce college-educated professionals from all walks of life. Many of my colleagues from the CUNY system are struggling in a tough economy with loans being choked off, unemployment rising and higher tuition costs.
These students represent the next potential generation of New Yorkers with immense youthful vitality and talent. However, as the recent occupation of N.Y.U. and protest at C.C.N.Y. has shown, they are growing frustrated to the point of protest. How do you plan to tap into this resource with your campaign for public advocate?

Felix,

We all know the world is changing. We are shifting toward an idea-driven economy, where creativity and innovation are paramount. With a large pool of young, creative individuals, New York can be the leader of this change, not just for the U.S., but for the world. No longer can we rely on Wall Street for prosperity. Now, we must understand that it is our abundance of entrepreneurs, artists and professionals that will spur the innovation that brings us out of the crisis, and places New York squarely at the forefront of the new economy.

As Public Advocate I will fight to keep tuition down, as well as make sure that the needs of our young professionals and students are heeded at the government level. These issues must be prioritizes of our city's government, and I will do everything in my power to make that so.

Thank you for writing,

Mark
