The city is not set up to create bike lanes. It's simply not practical. What we need is greater public transportation service - the completion of the second avenue subway line, the extension of the 7th avenue line and better bus service. Less traffic will make biking easier.

It's not improbable to have bike lanes, it just seems that way because no one enforces them. As it stands now, although you have clearly marked lanes, drivers still park over it and causing an obstruction.
In any case, as a dedicated mass transit rider, the city should put more priority into fixing up our transit system. There aren't any out there that remotely operates like ours (ie: being available 24/7).
