With spurt of over 400 new donors, campaign more than doubles rate of donations to qualify for City Funds

New York -- Mark Green's campaign for Public Advocate announced today that it had reached the legally required threshold of at least $125,000 in small contributions from City residents to qualify for over $750,000 in public funds in time for the final weeks of the Primary when television and radio advertising usually occurs.

"We've been able to qualify for public funds in just six months as compared to competitors who took two to three years," said Anne Strahle, Green's campaign manager. "While we had raised some $100,000 in small, matchable gifts as of the July 11 filing averaging $20,000 a month, we more than doubled that rate and raised $50,000 in just the past month alone from a flood of 420 new donors. The $150,000 easily qualifies Green for New York for the City's 6-1 public financing system, a law Mark originally got enacted 11 years go."

"This fundraising success now allows us to get out the message that Mark has by far the best experience and record -- after being the City's consumer advocate and public advocate for 11 years -- and also the best new ideas for New York.  That's a winning combination that voters will now hear more about."

As of the August 10 filing, Green for New York will report that is has raised a total of nearly $500,000 from 1,700 donors, a sum collected entirely in the past six months.
